A noir-inspired roguelike

OTXO is an action game from Lateralis Heavy Industries that makes use of roguelike and top-down shooter elements to create a challenging experience that will have you wondering what the next best move would be. Keep in mind, though, that this title features mature content in the form of extreme gun violence and blood.

OTXO also presents players with a unique gameplay experience that only they can enjoy. The setting will be randomized with a variety of room combinations for each round you play. Other similar titles you can check out are Brotato and Have a Nice Death.

Hundreds of possible room combinations to explore

As already mentioned, OTXO allows you to experience the gameplay in a new way for each new round. You will have to navigate a mansion with eight areas out of over 150 different room selections. One thing that will remain the same, though, is the appearance of a bartender, who can provide you with a wide variety of unlockable weapons and more than 100 abilities to choose from.

You’ll also have to keep an eye out for the different enemy types that you can come across as each one has its own strengths and abilities. You can also trigger a slow-mo mechanism that allows you to respond to attacks in a timely manner. The game is also presented in a mostly black-and-white format that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the noir vibes.

However, this black-and-white format can make it quite difficult to view certain elements, so you can easily miss them. The aim is to defeat the hordes of enemies that come your way while you try to find the person you’ve been looking for. Something to note, as well, is that the plot is quite simple and basic, so it doesn’t offer much of an intense story.

Prepare for nonstop enemy waves

While some improvements could be made to the game’s plot and the visibility of certain elements that are needed to complete the game, OTXO is still a very promising game. With intense challenges that change each time you start a new game and with hundreds of possible weapon and ability combinations, there’s no singular way for you to enjoy the game.

PROS

  • Randomized maps based on 150 room selections
  • Over 100 abilities and numerous weapons to unlock
  • Features a slow-motion mechanism for better focus

CONS

  • Black-and-white graphics can make it hard to see some elements
  • Plot is not too extensive
